Few cars this year have captured the imagination in the same way that the Ford Focus RS has done. A practical body style, an on the road price of less than £32,000 and an engine that produces 345 horsepowers. What is not to like about this car? Four wheel drive ensures stability, a top speed of 165 miles per hour means it really is rather quick.
With all that power, Ford thought carefully and included a launch control mode so that you could embarrass your mates at the track (I’m sure you wouldn’t do it at some traffic lights). Even better for the petrol heads amongst you is the ‘drift mode’ button. Press this little beauty and the car will assist by ensuring the back end loosens up. A fantastic feature for a fun car.
“The all-new Focus RS delivers stunning performance and innovative technology at a price that will make both our customers and premium automakers look twice,” said Jürgen Gagstatter, chief program engineer for Focus RS. “After experiencing the acceleration and cornering capability of the Focus RS, drivers will question the sense in spending almost £10,000 more on a premium competitor.”
We heartily agree with Gagstatter’s statements and conclude that there is little else at this price that we could even consider. That’s why the Car Articles Sports Car of the Year 2016 has been awarded to the Ford Focus RS. Even better news is that there’s an official Mountune kit coming. It includes a high-performance air filter, bespoke alloy crossover duct with high-performance silicone hoses, an upgraded air re-circulation valve and revised software tuning for the engine ECU. Go for that as it only costs £899 and you have a veritable giant slayer.
Go Ford. Go Focus RS. We are absolutely sure you won’t be disappointed.
