According to a recent survey by specialist classic car and motorcycle insurance broker Footman James, 26 per cent of classic vehicle owners prefer to spend their free time at shows, events or rallies. Being on the move is obviously a priority as touring comes a close second in terms of popular pastimes, with 23 per cent of owners admitting that it is a passion.
Owners spend less time tinkering and sprucing up their pride and joy with 18 per cent choosing to spend their free time washing and polishing their vehicle and just 16 per cent would use the time to undertake a restoration.
The survey, of over 3,500 classic vehicle owners, was conducted last November and included visitors to the Footman James Classic Motor Show.
Andy Fairchild, Footman James’ managing director, said: “With the nice weather finally on the way, it is great to hear that so many classic owners plan to get out on the open road and make the most of their vehicle. The classic season is well underway so now is the time to dust off the paperwork, fill up the engine and enjoy.”
