Less that one year on, the costs have doubled!
The practical driving test now costs £56.50 on a weekday.
This is a worrying trend - for some (myself included) I actually couldn’t get to my workplace without a car.
Inflation is one cause, but the increased demand for oil has meant that crude prices are on the up, and since we rely so much on petroleum based products, there is no sign that they will come down soon.
As far as the DSA is concerned, they have a monopoly and can fairly justify their price increases. The instructors on the other hand have to be careful, cause increasing their prices just means they might lose the customer to another cheaper instructor!
Thanks for your comments.
It would be interesting to get an up to date price on lessons from you?
Is there a lot of competition between instructors on the issue of price?
The first time I went for driving lessons, I went through an independent. The experience wasn’t very good and due to a family tragedy I had to give them up.
When I was ready to return, I went through BSM as it seemed to have a good reputation. I’m quite glad I did as I got the most barmy, funny and impressive instructor I’ve had. Well, after the first one had a breakdown that is (not due to my driving I hasten to add!).
