It is fair to say that the all new Ford EcoSport has bold styling. That’s not to say we don’t like it, in the same way that we like the MINI Countryman for example. This car is being sold, as are many others at the moment, on the promise of “all the practicality and affordability of a small car in a spacious and flexible SUV package”.
The EcoSport is the first-ever SUV to be offered with a 1.0-litre engine and it happens to be a great one too. The three cylinder featured has won International Engine of the Year three years in a row from 2012.
“All-new Ford EcoSport delivers a clever and connected small car for our European customers,” said Nick Fitzgerald, EcoSport chief programme engineer. “Ford’s new urban SUV is economical, flexible and stylish, and will line-up alongside the new B-MAX compact multi-activity vehicle, the best-selling Fiesta to complete Ford’s comprehensive small car line-up for the UK.”
So, what do you think? Granted, the price hasn’t been confirmed as yet but it does strike us at Car Articles as an interesting alternative to a Ford Fiesta. I’m not sure it’ll be hugely remembered as a pinnacle of design in years to come but it will offer an affordable means to get on the SUV ladder.
