In the inaugural 2014 award ceremony for the UK Car of the Year Awards, the brilliant little Ford Fiesta ST has taken ‘Best Performance Car’ honours.
This accolade follows recognition last month from What Car? and Top Gear, which proclaimed Fiesta ST its overall Car of the Year.
The new UK Car of the Year honours are decided by a panel of experienced British motoring journalists, including contributors to national newspapers, consumer and industry magazines, websites and TV.
Ken Gibson, The Sun motoring editor, commented: “Performance doesn’t have to be all about size; the little Fiesta is a riot of fun and a great driver’s car at a fraction of the price you could pay for power.”
Scotland’s The Sunday Post motoring editor Alisdair Suttie said: “The Fiesta ST is a riot to drive, has all of the everyday versatility of any other Fiesta and it still manages to cost less than the competition. This is hot hatch perfection.”
Powered by a 1.6-litre EcoBoost 180PS petrol engine, the Fiesta ST covers 0-62mph in 6.9sec, has a top speed of 139mph and is capable of 47.9mpg.
The £17,245 Fiesta ST offers performance-tuned steering, suspension and brakes as well as Torque Vectoring Control which continuously balances power between the front wheels for exceptional control and handling especially when accelerating through corners. Ford MyKey to limit inexperienced or young drivers, SYNC with Emergency Assistance connectivity and Recaro sports seats are also standard.
Car Articles maintain this is probably the best small hot hatch on the market at the moment and we can verify that it is a genuinely engaging and fun drive.
