Due to a recent accident, I’ve been out of action. Not only from the general day to day stuff, but even from getting behind the wheel. I find this extremely frustrating. Tasks that are supposed to be simple are suddenly far more complex because I can’t simply jump behind the wheel in order to go and buy something/pick someone up/quickly get somewhere.
I grant you that not everyone has their own mode of transport, but it makes life so much more simple when it’s possible to simply get in a vehicle and go. I am now quite surprised at how annoyed I am that I cannot do so, more so than I ever thought possible. This is made even worse when I have checked my motorbike over ready to roll out for a spin.
So, given that I can’t really venture too far (i.e. only round the house), I suppose I’ll be watching endless repeats of Top Gear on Dave whilst waiting for Sunday to roll up for a new episode.
My advice? If you can drive, enjoy the freedom that it brings as you never know when something might come up meaning that you can no longer slip behind the wheel.

February 21, 2011 at 6:24 pmIt just goes to show just how much we rely on our vehicles when we are able to drive them.
It also reinforces an old saying: “You never know what is around the corner”. We take so many things for granted. Hopefully your problem is temporary, but it makes you think how would someone cope if there was permanent injury. Thank goodness for the Motability scheme!
Hope you get mobile again soon
Thanks

Thanks for the kind comments. It should indeed be only temporary but has proved to be extremely painful and frustrating. It certainly puts a lot of stuff in perspective as you suggest.

September 27, 2011 at 2:13 pmWe sell a low cost insurance policy which covers alternative transport costs incurred following the inability to drive as a result of an injury. May be worth looking into. http://www.St-Chrisopher.com
