As I’ve previously mentioned here, I wasn’t able to take part in this years’ Racing Driver Of The Year event due to health problems, much to my huge disappointment. However, someone other than yours truly had to win, and the honour this year went to none other than James Corte.
Here’s what Vauxhall had to say:
It was a hard-fought battle for first place, but our new racing star beat nearly 10,000 driving hopefuls to become VXR Racing Driver of the Year and fully-paid Vauxhall driver for the entire 2009 season. Check out all the photos on our Facebook page.
James, a 31-year old accountant from Winchester was officially announced as winner at the end of the adrenaline fuelled race camp, after having narrowly missed out on the coveted title in last year’s competition.
James proved his worth on the final day of the challenge as he demonstrated that he has all the talent, passion and determination to be a professional racing driver. 2007’s winner; John Allison handed over the Vauxhall Astra VXR keys and congratulated James on his victory, along with British Touring Car Driver Tom Onslow-Cole.
Congratulations to James from all of us here at VXR Racing Driver of the Year.
Naturally, I’ll be in line for next year’s competition as soon as it opens, where I thoroughly expect that Mr Corte will be handing the keys to me. What becomes of you after you win? Well, I’m not so sure about that. I know that I saw John Allison in the paddocks a few times for the BTCC – so perhaps you move up to that if you’re good enough.
Mentioning the BTCC, I’m extremely interested to see what Jason Plato is up to next, now that SEAT have withdrawn. There are rumours that he is going on sabbatical from racing, which for my money would be a complete disaster. They may as well hand Giovanardi the title for next year right now…

October 9, 2008 at 11:04 amWell, like anything else in life, you take the good with the bad. Look out for the next article – totally neutral coverage!
Well, it’s Vauxhall. They attract polemical views. I like my Astra – others meanwhile suffer their Vauxhall disengaging its’ own handbrake and rolling down the street…
