The year is coming to a close and savvy collectors will be scouring dealers of used and new cars like Shelbourne Motors for the cream of this year’s crop of new models. If you’re one such collector, or looking to get into the market, here are our predictions for which of this year’s models are going to be remembered and appreciate in value as the years go by.
- BMW 1 Series
This is practically already a classic—their first run sold out and new iterations have only improved upon what was already a great work of engineering. With a focus on refinement over raw power or fancy infotainment options, this compact model will appeal to the purists who make up the better part of the classic market, and so demand is only likely to grow. At the same time, a broad range of options means if you’re looking to buy something new for your own use with resale value as a bonus, this makes an excellent choice.
- Nissan GT-R
Steeped in ergonomic excellence from top to bottom, the GT-R features a dash interface designed in cooperation with the designers of the Gran Turismo video game and as much engineering as Nissan could cram inside it. It’s only in the last few years that we’ve begun to see the appreciation the classic market has for Japanese cars, but its clear that they do and unmodified versions of this race track powerhouse will undoubtedly be worth a lot in the years to come.
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
Affectionately known as the Evo, this beauty features a striking silhouette and a beastly engine train for that combination of style and power that every classic needs. Production models often produce well over 300 brake horsepower and the iconic look really help to build that prestige image that’s essential for a true classic. Again it’s a model known for its low production numbers, and modifications are very popular meaning that a well-preserved vanilla version will see its value on the rise before too long, and with a new saloon coming out next year it’s a great time to get into the game if you’re willing to accept the cost of picking such a high-spec model up new.
