Now you might think that given the current state of the automotive market that there is little room for optimism in a stagnant manufacturer market.
However, in my opinion, Audi has positioned itself well for a potential revival in the industry. Two cars in particular cause considerable excitement; the new Audi A6 Quattro and the Audi S8.
Audi A6 cars have been popular for ages but the new Quattro trumps them all. With a number of astute improvements to both performance and drivability the new A6 will surprise a few.
First and foremost, the suspension has been completely revamped. Although this may have something to do with increasing the standard wheels from eighteen to nineteen inches, no longer will you feel every bump in the road. In fact, along with the improved suspension you’ll be blissfully unaware of the uneven surface you’re driving on.
Probably one of my favorite improvements is the insertion of a supercharged V-6 engine which churns out considerable power but maintains a decent gas mileage. The V-6 delivers over 255 horsepower, with the supercharged a powerful 300-hp, but maintains a mpg of 18 for city and 27 on the highway.
A fun, high-performance car that doesn’t break the bank, the new A6 is taking Audi into 2010 with confidence.
The more traditional Audi S8 is another great car that I’m a big fan of. The S8 has traditionally been one of the best luxury sedans on the market. However, Audi has gone a step further and made this luxury ride a true driving experience. Following an industry trend of making traditionally bulkier sedans more dynamic Audi have equipped the S8 model with a 450-hp, ten cylinder engine. A respectable top speed of 155 mph masks even more acceleration ability. The bulky S8 can do 0-60mph in under 5 seconds!
Now for the drawbacks. The S8 is expensive, and some may say overpriced. The gas mileage also leaves something to be desired; only getting 18mpg on the highway and a lowly 13 in the city. However, if you’re as big a fan as myself of this ride you can find a used Audi for less than £30,000.
So two great cars that should be on top of the sales columns during 2010; find your nearest dealer and take them out for a test drive, I’m sure you’ll like what you found.
