The accolade for the Car Articles ‘Car of the Year’ 2017 has been won by the absolutely outstanding Land Rover Range Rover Velar SUV. Granted, that name might be a bit of a mouthful but this is a car that you can go just about anywhere in, do just about anything with and turn up in absolute style when you arrive.
This 2017 Range Rover sits squarely amongst competitors such as the BMW X4 and Porsche Macan, providing a similar yet different enough offering to recommend it over both. The Velar is great looking, swallows miles and miles with ease and features a genuinely upmarket interior. The premium feel is apparent wherever you sit in the cabin. The only downside is perhaps a high purchase price – but this is a JLR vehicle so you didn’t expect cheap I’m sure!
The Land Rover Velar also won with some excellent Euro NCAP top trump scores. The numbers included 93% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection and 74% for pedestrian protection. This demonstrates that you’re in safe hands should the worst happen on the road.
Whilst this car might come with a higher list price than some rivals (think around £50,000 for a decently specced model), whichever engine or output you choose you’ll find it a good drive. The way that the Velar puts down power and effortlessly cruises makes it a great choice for those who rack up a large number of miles annually. This is still a Land Rover product too – meaning that some light off roading is possible thanks to air suspension and Intelligent Driveline Dynamics.
It is perhaps easy to overlook a car such as the Land Rover Range Rover Velar SUV. A car that isn’t at the pinnacle of a very premium set of vehicles from the same marque. That being said, we genuinely feel that this is a future classic just waiting to please. We can’t say enough about how much we loved this car when we got eyes on it at the dealership recently. If you’ve any sort of eye for cars at all, we strongly recommend you don’t miss out on this one.
Congratulations to Land Rover UK – the Range Rover Velar takes the Car Articles ‘Car of the Year’ 2017 award.
