Almost 90 per cent of people believe drivers would benefit from regular eye tests according to a new poll by Motorpoint.
The online survey by the UK’s leading car supermarket found 89 per cent of those quizzed wanted regular eye tests to be introduced for all motorists to ensure their vision was up to standard for driving. Close to 700 people took part in the snap poll on the Motorpoint website – www.motorpoint.co.uk
The results of the Motorpoint poll follow the publication of new figures from road safety charity Brake which estimates that drivers with impaired vision cause some 2,900 casualties on Britain’s roads every year.
Mark Carpenter, managing director of Motorpoint, said: “The results of our poll are quite clear – it’s vital for all drivers to get their eyes checked professionally on a regular basis. Although there is a cost associated to this and procedures should be put in place to keep these costs to an absolute minimum, the benefits of this in terms of safer motorists are clear for everyone to see moving forward.”
