Is Beaulieu Britain’s Best Classic Destination?

February 3, 2018 by Mr Butterscotch Leave a Comment

Beaulieu, the home of the National Motor Museum and host to a calendar of award-winning motoring events, has been shortlisted as one of Britain’s best classic car destinations – and you can vote for this jewel of the New Forest as your favourite place to enjoy a memorable petrol-fuelled day out.

Practical Classics magazine has announced Beaulieu’s place in the Britain’s Best Classic Destination competition shortlist. This selection of 30 favourite UK road-trip destinations voted for by readers will be whittled down to a top ten by enthusiasts’ votes.

Each of the final locations will become a destination stop-off on a round-Britain road trip undertaken by the magazine’s editorial team in their own classic cars. At each stop, the crew will be joined by the magazine’s readers for a pop-up classic car meet turning out in force to support them.

To see this road trip head to Beaulieu for a memorable motoring-themed day out, cast your vote atwww.practicalclassics.co.uk/bestclassic before voting closes on February 24th.

Beaulieu is in esteemed company in the shortlist as one the most scenic locations to drive to in the UK. Practical Classics Editor Danny Hopkins said: “We’ve had suggestions for the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland, to the dramatic mountain passes of Cumbria and Snowdonia. There have also been submissions for many museums and historic sites… anywhere with space to put your classic and experience something memorable, and to take a great photo!”

For over 60 years, Beaulieu has been a motoring nirvana in the heart of the New Forest National Park, set in idyllic countryside surroundings and just a stone’s throw away from the south coast. A favourite with enthusiasts is the National Motor Museum which tells the story of British motoring with its collection of more than 250 vehicles. From British Land Speed Record breakers to oddities including a giant motorised orange, the museum is packed with motoring treasures.

But Beaulieu is more than just a museum. Throughout the year, the picturesque parkland comes alive with unmissable motoring events for national and international enthusiasts. The event fields are home to the award-winning International Autojumble, which recently won Tourism South East’s Beautiful South Award for excellence as the gold-winning tourism event in its 50th year. The Practical Classics team has long made Beaulieu’s International and Spring autojumbles landmark events on its annual itinerary.

Beaulieu also hosts a season of Simply rallies for marques including Aston Martin, Land Rover and Ford on its Events Arena. Its high-octane Beaulieu Supercar Weekend and Hot Rod & Custom Drive-In Day are also part of a busy events calendar which celebrates some of the most exciting cars on the road.

A drive to Beaulieu takes you through stunning New Forest scenery and once you arrive, admission includes entry to the museum, the ancestral Montagu home of Palace House, 13th century Beaulieu Abbey, the new-look World of Top Gear, On Screen Cars and the stunning grounds and gardens.
