The Mazda MX-5 has yet again beaten off stiff competition to be pronounced officially as the UK’s top-rated sports car.
The highly respected market research organisation, JD Power, in conjunction with WhatCar? automotive magazine, carries out a UK Car Satisfaction Index review annually in which members of the public are asked to rate and comment on their vehicles. The survey reviews all makes and models of cars that are 2 years old at the date of review publication. For the 2011 survey around 17,000 UK car owners were asked to rate their satisfaction with their vehicles in terms of reliability, running costs, handling, interior quality, service from dealerships and driving dynamics.
For the second consecutive year, the Mazda MX-5, described by Mazda as “The ultimate in convertible cars”, came out on top in the Sports Cars and Cabriolets category, with an overall owner satisfaction rating of 82.4%. This exceptional rating was actually an increase on that achieved by the Mazda MX-5 in 2010 when it was also ranked top of its class. In this prestigious category the Mazda MX-5 once again saw off stiff from the likes of the new VW Scirocco, the Audi TT and the Mercedes-Benz CLK and SLK.
In the 2011 survey, Mazda MX-5 owners scored it higher than any other sports car for its steering sharpness, cornering stability and responsive brakes. Owners also praised the quality of service and the courtesy they received at Mazda dealerships and were impressed by the MX-5’s low servicing and repair costs.
The MX-5 is Mazda’s iconic two-seater sports car and has continually proved over the years that sports cars don’t have to be ridiculously expensive to provide driver satisfaction and give a thrilling, fun drive. Its low running, servicing and repair costs and renowned mechanical reliability mean that it is perfect for all year round, everyday use. The MX-5 successfully manages to combine the traditional sports car values that are so appreciated by UK drivers with modern design and technology. Good looks, excitement and fun fused with quality, reliability and low-cost motoring in one delightful, affordable package.
Mazda, the UK’s favourite sports car manufacturer, say that the MX-5 has been designed with lightness, agility and responsiveness in mind. According to the cars’ owners surveyed by JD Power and WhatCar magazine, they totally agree. It has a timeless, classic appearance and nothing can beat the thrill of head-turning, open-top driving. Conventional but simple to operate folding cloth soft-top and power folding retractable (closing in just 12 seconds) hardtop MX-5 models are available, so whatever your budget the dream and excitement of open-top motoring is now within your reach with a Mazda.
There are presently 12 MX-5 models on sale in the UK and, since its launch in 1989, more than 100,000 multi-award winning Mazda MX-5s have been sold in the UK to date. The results of the 2011 JD Power survey confirm once more that the Mazda MX-5 warrants its coveted position at the top of the class.
