Some sports cars are looking cheaper by the minute as people turn to more economical models that will satisfy their wallet in the longer term, but may cost more to buy at point of purchase. Here, I look at ten exemplary sports cars that will put a smile on your face, for around the £5,000 to £8,000 mark.

There’s plenty of variety in the list and so there should be something to suit everyone, from a more practical saloon right up to a roaring V8. My pick of the bunch? If space isn’t an issue, I’d be tempted by a Porsche Boxster – it remains a classic to this day. However, for more practicality, I’d look at the BMW M3.
I’ve recently been a passenger in a 1998 model and the looks and performance were both spot on the money. The best thing about any of these cars though? It’s that they are all more than capable of putting a big grin on your face whenever you get in and turn the key. And for that alone, it’s worth spending a little more at the pumps.
