The above figures, as supplied by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), show the net change in car registrations from 2016 to 2017. As you can see from the top section, across the board there is a percentage decrease, with July showing the biggest change. The year as a whole for England at least seems to show less of a significant change, whilst Wales has seen the biggest proportionate drop.
The car industry is huge and we need to support it for a strong economy. That said, with the economic difficulties everyone is facing people may well be turning to nearly new or used cars for their motoring fix. The much touted diesel scrappage scheme may help to boost sales and therefore registrations if indeed it is subject to widespread acceptance by local councils.
