Earlier in 2014, we previewed the Mercedes-AMG GT. We sang the praises of this car quite highly and rightfully so – although it is on sale for just shy of £100,000, it is a remarkable piece of exotic machinery. Having now had the pleasure of being up close and personal with this grand tourer from Stuttgart, it is safe to say that it very rightfully takes the award for Car Articles Most Wanted Car Of The Year 2014.
The GT S variant is staggeringly, earth shatteringly fast. The interior is beautifully appointed, albeit firmly more catered toward the driving dynamics over lots of buttons for other essentials such as the radio or air con. Seats hug very comfortably and when on the move the AMG GT rides quite well (although town driving can be a little bit on the overly firm side).
It’s hard to fault this car and when looking at it in the metal – the bit that really gives it pull as the ‘most wanted’ car – the proportions and shape hark back to a bygone age of gentleman racers and spirited driving. In this age of MPG over MPH, it would be impossible to select another car for this award when this car exists.
