Due to the sheer wealth of excellent cars that 2014 has seen, you’ll see more categories than ever before in the Car Articles Car of the Year Awards for 2014. They’ll also be hotly contested – such was the case with the stunning Porsche Macan and the Car Articles SUV Of The Year 2014 award. Not only could the Macan just as easily been in the top slot for overall Car of the Year 2014, but another SUV could have been in this place. However, for reasons you can read below, the Porsche Macan has taken this year’s top spot for SUV of the Year 2014.
The Macan is a car that is smaller than the larger Cayenne (which some would describe as a tank on the road). The proportions and swooping curves more than hint to a Porsche 911 on stilts. This is backed up with the performance – less than 5 seconds to 62 in an SUV is faintly scary. Best of all though is the overall package. The interior is shiny, soft touch and quite clearly a grade above most other cars on the market. There’s plenty of space inside for the kids and a trip to the shops. Dynamically, it is more than capable off road and handling and grip levels are excellent. Would you prefer a diesel or petrol? The choice is yours although all engines perform well.
Try to find a poor word said about the car, beyond perhaps the price, we dare you. But then quality doesn’t come cheap and in this case you certainly get what you pay for.
