Five Simple Maintenance Tips For Your Car

April 7, 2013 by Mr Butterscotch Leave a Comment

Whilst cars continue to become ever more technical, there are some simple things you can do to make sure that your car stays as it should between servicing intervals and yearly MOTs. Here are my top five tips to ensure that your car continues to run as it should (as well as look good):

1) Make sure to check your oil. If you want to avoid a massive bill, make sure it is within the correct level between maximum and minimum. Too much will cause damage, as will too little. Check a cold engine as changes in viscosity can mean incorrect readings when oil is hot.

2) Check tyre pressures. I’ve written about this before but everything from tyre wear to fuel economy can be impacted by incorrectly inflated tyres.

3) Wash your car. It might sound simple but the dirt and grime can take a toll on your paintwork meaning you’ll pay for it should you ever sell.

4) Top up your washer fluid. Nothing makes a journey more dangerous than not being able to see and running out of washer fluid on the way to your destination is no fun at all!

5) Have any unexplained noises, rattles or strange sensations checked by a qualified mechanic as soon as you’re able. What may be a minor repair can become much more serious if you leave it too long.

Look out for further tips in the future!

If you take a real interest in vehicle maintenance it might be worth looking into some courses for training as a mobile mechanic but make sure you don’t start taking on customers without mobile mechanics insurance.
