In a bizarre turn-around, the government has seen fit to continue the trend of raising the price of fuel. This time round, an extra £1 has been added to a tank of fuel as prices have recently crept back up to the more than 90p per litre mark – yet no-one has deemed to say anything as once again it’s been that slow, drip-drip price increase.
Unleaded petrol rose by 2.12 pence per litre, with an increase of 34.5% since Labour came into power in 1997. Of course, dearer petrol isn’t just down to the government, a lot of it is simply tied to the price of oil – the price of which fluctuates across the world economy based on supply and demand (and OPEC of course).
A further increase is planned in April – which means that we’re double taxed throughout the year on something that is completely necessary to keep the modern way of life afloat. I, for one, am shocked given the way in which the government keeps trying to tell us that they want to revive the economy and yet prices of fuel have increased since November.
