The used car market is one which is famously difficult to navigate. Whilst it is beneficial that it is so large and there is such choice available, this also means that there are a lot of scams, fraudulent sellers and dangerous cars to avoid. This can be challenging and daunting (especially if you are not experienced), but fortunately, it is now easier than ever to shop with confidence and drive away with a great car.
This is, largely, thanks to HPI and their expansion in 2016. HPI is a highly respected company that carries out vehicle history checks – this uncovers any hidden secrets that the car might have and allows the motorist to make the right decision. Shockingly, HPI finds that 1 in 3 cars has some kind of issue. This could be that it is recorded as stolen, it was previously written off or there is outstanding finance amongst other issues.
Expansion
In 2016, HPI expanded by launching HPI Valuations and HPI Recalls. These are two extremely valuable services that the automotive industry can benefit greatly from.
Valuations
HPI Valuations provides accurate valuations of an automobile; this includes price at new, trade-in value, private sale and forecourt prices. Additionally, they provide information like depreciation, running costs and more.
HPI Recall
HPI Recall is a safety check that allows a motorist to see if the manufacturer has recalled the automobile due to a safety defect. Since 2011, over 6 million vehicles have been recalled by their manufacturer and returned to the dealership. In October, Mercedes-Benz recalled 400,000 cars in the UK over an airbag fault.
Crucially, HPI Recall is the only check which checks the number plate instead of just the make and model. Buying an automobile with an outstanding safety recall can be incredibly dangerous, yet it is often something that is not checked. If the buyer checks and decides to purchase the vehicle, they can benefit from free repairs by sending it back to the manufacturer.
Comprehensive Overview
When these checks are used together, it provides a comprehensive analysis of the car in question and allows the buyer to make an intelligent decision. Additionally, the HPI Valuations tool is helpful for private sellers to establish a fair price, as well as buyers who can use this as a negotiating tool.
There is always an element of risk when purchasing an automobile, but these services from HPI have helped to greatly reduce this risk and motorists are able to easily identify whether or not a vehicle is a smart purchase or not.
