Autosport Magazine have awarded the Ginetta G50 number one spot in their ‘Top 10 Cars of the Year’ in this week’s Christmas bumper issue! (18-25th December 2008)
The G50’s inaugural year closes having enjoyed a successful one-make Championship launch, a GT4 Championship dominance, completion of a 24 hour race and expansion into Europe.
Over seventy G50 chassis have been built since the first customer cars were delivered in February this year. In the same issue, a story highlighting the intent of the latest G50 model – the G50Z, is an indication of what 2009 has in store for the versatile sportscar.
Texaco Havoline Ginetta Championship frontrunners Spencer McCarthy and Kieran Vernon line up second in the ‘Rivalries of the Year’ as recognition for the edge-of-the-seat racing the pair have provided all season.
Other Ginetta drivers get noted in the ‘National Drivers of the Year’ category with Ginetta Junior Champion Dino Zamparelli in at 9th and former Ginetta Junior Champion yet current Ginetta G50 Champion Nigel Moore is three spots higher in 6th place. Congratulations also to former Ginetta Junior Graham Carroll who wins the ‘Club Driver of the Year’ accolade.
The Ginetta G50 has been a hit on the race track since its launch early in 2008. Now you can enjoy the experience of driving the mindblowing chassis on the road. Whilst racing is in the car’s blood, this road equivalent retains the same performance and handling characteristics for every day use and as a track day car.
Essentially the same as the racing car, the rear-wheel-drive beauty has everything you’d expect from a road car too such as air conditioning and enough boot space for two sets of golf clubs!
A price for the G50 hasn’t yet been announced but the 3.5 litre Ford-derived V6 powerplant should mean an extremely fast 0-60 time thanks to the lightweight body. Will it be fun to drive? Well, there’s a reason why some believe that Ginetta are due to overtake Caterham as the club race marque of choice…
