The Volvo XC40 has been crowned the Honest John Car of the Year 2019, beating all of its rivals to take the overall top honour.
Regarded as the most honest and unbiased awards in the industry, the HonestJohn.co.uk awards were announced in a ceremony, at the Vinyl Factory in Soho, London. The glittering event celebrated the cars and vans that are considered to be the most popular with HonestJohn.co.uk’s audience.
As well as storming to victory in the ‘Premium Crossover’ category, the XC40 took the overall ‘Car of the Year’ prize as a result of its popularity with the site’s 2.3 million readers.
The HonestJohn.co.uk awards differ from many others in the industry as it is the site’s readers that dictate the models that take the honours. The overall winner is the car that has proved the most popular with the site’s users over the past 12 months.
Honest John Editor David Ross said: “A crossover has to be very special to be named Premium Crossover of the year, but the luxurious and stylish Volvo XC40 has made this category its own in 2019. Indeed, no other model has come close to matching the XC40’s popularity at HonestJohn.co.uk and it is easy to see why our readers hold this upmarket crossover in such high regard.

Another significant achiever in the 2019 honours was the Suzuki Swift 1.0 BoosterJet, which took the Real MPG prize. Real MPG is HonestJohn.co.uk’s measure of testing real life fuel economy figures via input direct from its readers, and achieved an average MPG with the site’s readers of 67.4mpg – 102.9% of the manufacturer’s claimed figure.
