There will always be some that argue against the perceived need for a ‘performance’ SUV. Why, they will ask, does anyone need a person and load lugger with a raised ride height but almost 550 horsepowers? The perfect riposte may well be that no-one does need it. This is the category that the Porsche Cayenne Turbo (petrol) finds itself in.
That being said, a person with the right size of purse or wallet (we do not discriminate here) may well choose to buy it. In the same way that very few will experience the joy of a full throttle of a Bugatti Veyron, there will be those that deign to buy a big, capable car that can demolish most others in the stakes of outright performance.
The 2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo is therefore not a car that you need. It is a car that you may well want for safety, space, performance, bragging rights and sheer presence on the road. It is also far more attractive than the outgoing car. That in itself may well mean that others could find a used bargain in time. We like it a lot.
