Space and pace. It’s a simple equation but one that can be lacking in modern car design and engineering. Either we end up with a large SUV with no performance to speak of or we have a tiny city car that gives off little more than water but can’t reach 80 miles per hour. BMW know that big, classy, powerful cars still have a place in the CO2 hating world in which we live. The BMW M760Li xDrive is their answer to those who crave the simple equation of space and pace.
It is the new flagship car in the 7 series range, taking their large executive to the next level when it comes to rapidity of motoring. It is also the debut for the first M Performance TwinPower Turbo V12 engine. Yes, a TwinPower Turbo V12 engine. What’s not to like in that sentence?
Performance is simply staggering for a car of this size – outputs of 600hp and 800Nm of torque ensure you’ll get to your destination as quick as you dare. Actual figures are zero to 62mph in 3.9 seconds and a (limited) top speed of 155mph. I’m sure you’ll agree this is a real ‘bahn stormer.
As you can tell from the xDrive moniker this is a BMW all-wheel drive product. This is part of BMW’s wider strategy to offer just about all of their models in either rear or xDrive flavours to widen their appeal. This particular car comes with a rear bias setup to offer the most engaging drive possible, with traction being sent to the front when wheel spin is detected. Model specific tuning will offer an accomplished and performance oriented feel.
The new model is instantly recognisable thanks to the M Performance body enhancements, specific trim details and unique 20-inch alloy wheels. An active quad exit exhaust system ensures that, when desired, the presence of the new M760Li xDrive V12 can be heard as well as seen.
Inside, the M760Li xDrive V12 retains the luxurious ambience of the new BMW 7 Series, but adds sporting elements such as the M Performance steering wheel and illuminated V12 logo and exclusive M pedals. Naturally, the specification of the car is extremely high, with a long list of comfort, convenience, safety and dynamic driving features.
We at Car Articles have no doubt that this will be an extremely expensive car. The flip side of that is, like everything in this world, you get what you pay for. In this case BMW is offering massive safety, security, performance and desirability with a very characterful fashion. If we had the cash then we’d say put us down on the reserve list. As we don’t, we look forward to seeing the BMW M760Li xDrive bomb down a motorway near us!
