Jenson Button continued to march towards the World Championship title on Sunday, following his dominance of the Spanish Grand Prix. This is his fourth win in five races, after following a pit strategy that saw him overtake teammate Rubens Barrichello (don’t quote me on this but I doubt Barrichello can be too chuffed, given that he was in fact leading the race for a while).
The win set Button up to move 14 points ahead of Barrichello, who is in second place, above Mark Webber, in the drivers’ standings.
The race was extremely exciting early on, with four cars being wiped out almost at the first corner. Luckily, no-one was injured, but amazingly a number of other drivers wouldn’t finish the race, including Heikki Kovaleinen. Lewis Hamilton again didn’t have much luck, managing a paltry ninth place and actually being a lap behind the race leader.
Ferrari also finally broke their duck and managed some points (Massa came sixth in the Grand Prix on Sunday) but it looks as though the old guard are really struggling this season. To be honest, with Brawn so far ahead, it hasn’t been one of the most inspiring of seasons. This hasn’t been helped by the incidents, off track dramas and lack of performance from the World Champion. We can only hope for more races later in the season that keep the excitement firmly on track!
