No, it’s not my new exotically beautiful girlfriend. It isn’t an orange squash drink either. What it is, in fact, is the brand new concept from Mazda. Hello Kiyora! Doesn’t it look special!
The latest from Mazda says:
“The word kiyora means clean and pure in Japanese and this lightweight urban compact combines Zoom-Zoom exhilaration with the latest environmental technology.”
All very nice, I’m sure you’d agree. But let’s find out the real scoop from the Paris Motor Show:
Mazda Kiyora (meaning ‘clean and pure’ in Japanese) represents the harmony between driving pleasure and environmental and safety features in line with Mazda’s long-term technology development vision, “Sustainable Zoom-Zoom”.
The concept of “Kiyora” helped the designers to imagine a city car cutting cleanly through an urban landscape, with water as the design theme. Equipped with Mazda’s next generation 4 cylinder direct injection engine and featuring the company’s unique Smart Idle Stop System, the car achieves excellent fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The improved aerodynamic performance of Nagare design also contributes to these factors.
The new Mazda concept car is based on an all-new platform designed to maximise weight reduction and a high level of safety, in pursuit of enhanced driving pleasure. It also features an interior design and new functions that support a youthful lifestyle.
What do you reckon? Would you have one? It looks supremely funky. Unfortunately, it looks about the same size as that single-seater that Clarkson bizarrely drove through the BBC offices in London. Surely that’s just the picture though. Will Mazda offer something different in the high-mpg-low-CO2 sector though? Only time will tell but this design looks like something worth watching.
