In the words of Alan Partridge, “Britain has some of the safest roads in Europe“. Whilst that might still be true, if you travel up North to my neck of the words you’d very quickly discover that the local neighbourhood has some incredibly massive potholes AND speed bumps. Granted, one is accidental, the ohter is deliberate, but they’ll both slow you down.
I watched with interest some weeks ago when the road workers were out and they were spraypainting around each pothole – presumably because the team that will arrive to fix it will forget what they’re actually meant to be doing there. Either way, it’s been a not insignificant passage of time since that has happened. So much so, in fact, that the spraypaint has started to vanish from the tarmac.
There’s no doubt that large potholes in the road can cause damage to cars, but they’re also an added danger for other road users such as cyclists, motorcyclists and even pedestrians crossing the road (seriously, some of them are so large you could easily trip over them). So come on council, get it sorted! Interestingly enough, the title of mayor has changed hands, so let’s see if there’s any new thinking about the state of the roads.
