In the worst news since Massa’s accident, it’s been revealed that Michael Schumacher will not be returning to the sport this season. His return has been cancelled due to a neck injury from a motorcycle accident earlier in the year. Here’s Schuey’s explanation in his own words:
“Yesterday evening, I had to inform Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo and team principal Stefano Domenicali that unfortunately I’m not able to step in for Felipe,” explained the seven-time world champion in a statement on his official website. “I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible, however, much to my regret it didn’t work out.”
Apparently, it’s his neck that is continuing to cause him problems, though what I find interesting is the talk that it hasn’t healed ‘yet’. I think I was as surprised as anyone that Schumacher was so quick to step in, which does make me wonder whether, when the fractures are fully healed, he’ll be behind the wheel again…
