Do you like your luxury, well, luxurious? In fact, do you like your luxury beyond the wealth of not just 99% of people but 99.99% of folk? If so, then the Maybach Exelero is just for you. Whilst the Bugatti Veyron is expensive at £800,000 this thing comes in at – well it’s one of those things. If you have to ask, you can never afford it. True, for practically all, as the price tag is rumoured to be around £4 million.
Why might you decide to get out your Black card though? It’s pretty simple. If you like your car to be unique as well as maddeningly expensive, the Maybach Exelero is for you. Most definitely. After all, rumour has it that there’s going to be only one of them in existence. Now that’s what I call special!
Apparently, the idea for the vehicle came about in 2005, when Fulda (they make tyres) got in touch with Maybach with a new project. Fulda wanted to test their super high-performance tyres and decided to see what Maybach had to offer. This insane car was the result. Would anyone else have taken on such a project? Who knows, but you have to admire the skill and vision in coming up with such a crazy four wheeled object d’art.
Not only will the Exelero’s weight test the tyres, but this massive machine (actually it’s bigger than massive at 19.3ft long) will chuck out 700hp. Scarily, for all that power and size, it’s only a two-seater! What a waste of a wonderful bi-turbo V12 engine. Then again, it does 218mph, so I guess it’s not that much of a waste.
I think if I was Fulda I might have asked Nissan to use my tyres on their Nurburgring jaunt with the new Nissan GT-R. It would have probably tested their tyres better. What about if I was Maybach? Well, I think I just might ask the Sultan of Brunei and Bill Gates how many they wanted each – as well as if the Pope wanted a bulletproof version…
