I’m afraid that once again I am announcing that there’s another rise in fuel duty (by 2p) as of tomorrow (Sept 1st 09). Interestingly, The Times is reporting that this is the first of a series of measures to raise more than £10 million in taxes. Punitive measures such as removing the car scrappage scheme will be part of the way in which the government will be looking to save money.
Scarily, the 2p fuel duty increase means that petrol will rise to an average of 105p per litre, with 65% of that amount going directly to the government. Justified? What do you think? The UK already has ridiculously high fuel prices, this is beyond a joke.
It worries me that the government is so quick to hand out money to businesses and yet is quite happy to attempt to eke more money out of the average citizen and more particularly the motorist. Cash cow? That’s us.
