Jenson Button has done it again – he coasted to a comfortable victory in Turkey after Sebastien Vettel managed to make a huge mistake on the first lap of the Istanbul Grand Prix.
Vettel managed to push himself wide in a turn (no doubt due the pressure of having Button’s now infamous white car behind him) that resulted in him going ‘off-tarmac’ as it were. This allowed Button to capitalise on said mistake and make the day’s work look frankly pretty easy for him. Ultimately, Vettel came third behind his team-mate Mark Webber (followed by Jarno Trulli, Nico Rosberg and Felipe Massa).
Unusually, Barrichello found himself out of the race very late on, after a suspected gearbox problem brought him in for the remainder. No doubt Ross Brawn will be very keen to see what the problem is, given the reliability of form of the Brawn cars for the other races of the season.
A torrid race for both McLaren cars saw Heikki Kovalainen and Lewis Hamilton languish in 14th and 13th. Other news that has been circulating shows the true feelings of Lewis, as he seems to have suggested at interview that they (McLaren) should have scrapped their current car due to it not offering enough speed and grip through corners.
Whatever the circumstances of the other cars on the grid, I’m quite happy to make a prediction now, after 6/7 wins from Jenson Button, he’s going to go on to win the World Title in 2009.
