Whilst I was away, the Le Mans 24 Hours race was taking place. Audi and Peugeot have previously fought tooth and nail for position at the front of the grid, especially as recent rules have favoured diesel engines. This has meant that both teams have fielded extraordinarily powerful LMP (Le Mans Prototypes) that feature engines powered by the black stuff.
The race this year was won by Peugeot, whose 908 HDi FAP V12 sports prototypes proved to be reliable on the day to take first and second respectively. Amazingly, cars that successfully finish at Le Mans go on to complete more than 380 laps of the course and it remains to this day a true testament to motorsport engineering.
