This is the third generation Volvo S60 and I’m sure you’ll all agree that it’s quite the looker. Sleek shut lines, a purposeful stance and a minimal use of car ‘jewellery’ show this is a vehicle that is both grown up and means business. For those unfamiliar with the S60 however, it’s worth noting that this is a ‘mid-size’ premium saloon car. This is the R-Design Edition that Volvo considers a ‘pathfinder’ for the range.
What’s to like about this car? How about lowered sports suspension, 19 inch alloy wheels, heated sports seats, a head-up display, all round parking sensors and of course a 14 speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. I could of course also mention the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay that is accessible through the car’s Sensus Connect system.
At launch, the S60 is available with a single, front-wheel-drive powertrain – Volvo’s proven 250hp T5 turbocharged petrol engine, matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission (complete with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for quick manual gear selection). A member of Volvo’s Drive-E family of lightweight 2.0-litre engines, it provides a strong combination of responsive performance and efficiency: combined cycle fuel economy ranges from 35.3 to 39.8mpg, CO2 emissions are from 152g/km, while 0-62mph can be dispatched in just 6.5 seconds.
The generously equipped S60 R-Design Edition is on sale now, priced at £37,920 on the road. First deliveries to customers are expected from May this year. We like this alot and are sure that early adopters will be more than happy with the combination of luxury, speed, safety and gadgets.
