The first race of the Formula 1 2012 season takes place at Melbourne during the 16th-18th March. In the meantime the winter testing continues and cars and drivers are prepping themselves for what is sure to be an action packed world championship. As F1 remains the pinnacle of motorsport (as per the opinion of most at least), I would like to offer five predictions for this year.
1) The racing this year will be closer than last year.
There have been few regulation changes and so all teams should be on a slightly more level playing field. Those who were at the back should be closer to midfield and the front of the grid will be more hotly contested.
2) Lewis Hamilton will be on better form.
Few had such a mixed season as Lewis Hamilton, for a variety of reasons both on and off track. If rumours are to be believed the new McLaren car is much stronger and Lewis is in a far better place mentally. Lewis will perform far better in 2012.
3) Michael Schumacher will take a podium place this year.
Schumacher is one of the most decorated motorsports legends of all time. His skill was unrivaled and his aggressive driving style was hard to compete with. 2012 will see Schumacher put in some extremely strong performances – the result of which will be a podium place (or several).
4) The Red Bull car will remain hugely fast.
This prediction is simple. Whilst I’ve said earlier that the grid will be closer, I am sure though that the Red Bull team car will be exceptionally fast on the track. Any track.
5) Jenson Button will win the inaugural 2012 F1 GP.
This may be a controversial statement but few others have had the consistency of the Frome Flyer recently. When Button is on form, few can beat his pace. This applies whether he is hard charging from the back or ploughing through poor weather.
So, there are five predictions for the 2012. Whatever happens, I’m sure that this will be one of the most exciting seasons ever.
Interesting predictions!
