Hagerty, global experts in classic car insurance, valuations and events, will soon open the gates of the 2019 Festival of the Unexceptional. Originally staged back in 2014 as the first event of its kind in Europe – to celebrate the ordinary, everyday cars that we all grew-up with, but have now all but disappeared – the light-hearted Festival of the Unexceptional (or FOTU) has already become a must-attend event for admirers of the mundane motor cars of our past, and has achieved cult status around the world.
The 2019 event sees the creation of a new category celebrating significant automotive birthdays, entitled the Anniversary Class. While many famous classic cars have entire magazine features dedicated to their birthdays, lower-level classics are overlooked but that isn’t the case at Hagerty. FOTU 2019 organisers will be wearing a party hat for legendary cars such as the Fiat 128, the Vauxhall Astra and forgotten hero, and early CVT pioneer, the Daf 33.
Each anniversary car will be given their own spot on the concours lawn to celebrate and to be celebrated. In addition to the anniversary class, guests can enjoy 53 cuts of prime automotive fodder on the concours lawn, 500 worth-seeing cars in the public carpark and a number of rare commercial vehicles, motorcycles and mopeds scattered around the grounds of Claydon Estate in Buckinghamshire.
Awards will be given for Best In Show, Runner Up, People’s Choice and Junior Judge’s Choice (as voted for by those under 18) plus, as is tradition, the Feast of the Unexceptional Award for Best Picnic of the day!

Now, in our sixth year, we not only show the very best of the mundane on the concours lawn, we now acknowledge the birth date of some once popular but now increasingly rare cars.”
