The Mail Online has covered the fact that British motorists pay about 60% fuel duty and tax when filling up at forecourts. Drivers are hit with fuel duty and VAT when buying fuel, making it an extremely expensive commodity. The continual upward rise (seemingly regardless of the prices of oil) means that taking journeys almost anywhere is becoming prohibitive to some consumers. A VAT reduction is being called for more widely and this would naturally help toward reducing the cost of fuel.
