The highly acclaimed Sunday Scramble returns to Bicester Heritage on 2nd October 2016 for its 11th instalment, as classic vehicle owners and enthusiasts gather at the former RAF base in Oxfordshire.
October’s edition of the hugely popular event represents the final open day of the year at Bicester Heritage, where visitors can enjoy going behind the scenes at over 30 dedicated restoring businesses and also take in stunning historic aircraft displays.
The likes of Classic Performance Engineering and storage experts Historit will be throwing open their doors on the day, giving guests an insight into what it takes to store, run and maintain a historic automobile.
The Sunday Scramble has grown from strength to strength since the inaugural event back in June 2014, with visitors now coming in their thousands to soak up the laid back and evocative atmosphere.
‘Drive it Day’ is attended by more than 3,000 guests of all ages and 1,500 cars – spanning more than 100 years of automotive history. Bicester Heritage recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of Sunday Scramble, as guests were once again wowed by the eclectic nature of the displays.
Only at the Sunday Scramble can you see the likes of a Ferrari F40 parked alongside a BMW 3.0 CSL Batmobile, plus legendary two-stroke RD350 YPVS and RD400 motorbikes and a Tiger Moth biplane in all their glory.
For the 11th edition, the usual wide array of car clubs, companies, charities and enthusiasts are all expected on the site, but there are also several Sunday Scramble firsts for visitors to enjoy.
October’s event will see the BMW Car Club GB celebrate the brand’s centenary by showcasing the best high-performance M cars in history for M Power Day. BMW M owners are invited to bring along their models to join in the festivities, while BMW Car Club GB members will receive an exclusive two-for-one ticket offer.
And for the first time, Blue Diamond Riley Services and MG Automobile Company will open freshly fitted workshops for guests to have a look around.
New to the site, Blue Diamond Riley Services is inviting Riley owners to join them for a display, with a selection of historic models on show. There are 11 Riley Imps, 3 Sprites and an MPH expected to touch down at Bicester Heritage.
Hagerty International will host its fourth live Valuation Arena at the event, allowing classic car owners to have their vehicle assessed by a team of experts, who will photograph the car and then provide a valuation certificate. It costs just £15, all proceeds going to charity. Book your trip in advance to avoid disappointment on the day.
As always, the Sunday Scramble will cater for lovers of both wings and wheels, and once again, the Tiger 9 team will also be putting on a static display on the airfield and Finest Hour Experiences will be offering the chance to head up to the skies in a stunning Tiger Moth aeroplane for a 20-minute trial flying lesson.
Bicester Heritage Marketing Manager Philip White said: “We always enjoy welcoming visitors and their vehicles to Bicester Heritage, a site which, when in the hands of the MOD, was off limits to members of the public for the best part of a hundred years. Now the public come in their thousands to enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and meet the dedicated and hard-working folk who are devoted to restoring and caring for classic cars, while enjoying a truly unique aviation experience.”
