Can McLaren really put a foot wrong at the moment? We strongly suspect not given that they have found a successful formula and taken it in just about every direction possible – and all directions are fast! In this case, our ‘Something For The Weekend’ car is the McLaren 720S Spider, which if you have a lovely Winter home in the South of France is sure to fit right in. Granted, over here it isn’t the weather for a drop-top of any kind, but if you can afford this little beauty you can afford to be somewhere warm to drive it.
It features the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engine that produces 720PS and 770Nm of torque. This means that whether the top is up or down, you’ll be racing down the road without trouble. This is best demonstrated in that acceleration from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) is the same as the 720S Coupé, standing at 2.9 seconds!
“The new McLaren 720S Spider offers an unparalleled blend of extreme performance, crafted luxury, driver involvement and daily usability – all with the additional exhilaration of open-air driving whenever required. As the most accomplished convertible supercar ever, the new Spider delivers across a remarkable spectrum of abilities to outstandingly high levels, and as lightest in class with an increase of just 49kg over the 720S Coupé, moves us even further ahead of our competition in the weight race.”
Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive.
Deliveries to customers will commence in March 2019 and UK prices will start from a mere £237,000. As always, if you had to ask, you can’t afford it!
