The market keeps on moving and Hyundai has made some wonderful cars recently, including the excellent i30 hatchback and the desirable ix35 (which remains on my premium car list to this day). Not a marque to rest on any laurels however, Hyundai is once again pushing the boundaries with their new flagship, the i40 (originally called the VF during development).
This premium new car will make its world premiere at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in March and will further impress buyers with a dynamic, sporty appearance and exceptional quality. Initially launching as an estate, the i40 will also be available as a saloon later in the year.
“The i40 perfectly combines the four elements that have become core Hyundai values: practicality, performance, efficiency, and styling. Our designers and engineers have produced a car that encapsulates what European motorists look for in a D-segment vehicle” commented Allan Rushforth, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Europe.
The i40 is specifically designed for the European market, with a ‘fluidic sculpture’ language making the car look cutting edge and appealing. It features the Hyundai signature hexagonal front grille and rakish lines which give the i40 a dynamic, sporty appearance by connecting the front, side and rear profiles.
Naturally with the i40 being a flagship product, Hyundai are packing in the features to make sure that it really stands out from the crowd. Innovations include the latest environmental technologies developed under the company’s Blue DriveTM eco-program, and a powertrain line-up which boasts best-in-class performance and fuel economy, and very low CO2 emissions.
Blue DriveTM represents a range of technologies in order to create a vehicle that is more fuel efficient than the competition. On Hyundai’s own website, this is represented as a vehicle with a hybrid engine, engine cooling optimisation, new power train technology, a more aerodynamic design and much more. This shows Hyundai’s commitment to the future of motoring and shows just why the i40 will be so important to the market.
The Blue DriveTM for the i40 will truly make a difference in this segment, especially with fuel prices being so high here in the UK. The powertrain line-up will offer a number of models to suit those seeking more performance or lower emissions, as per the competition in the ‘D’ segment.
The i40 will benefit from industry leading Five Year Triple Care package that includes a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, five years’ roadside assistance and five years of vehicle health checks. Few manufacturers offer anything comparable and it shows Hyundai’s dedication to the quality of their vehicles. It also provides another reason to consider the i40 over other cars in the class.
More details on i40 will be available nearer the time of its motor show world premiere in Geneva in March 2011. I’ll naturally provide more information around then on what will no doubt be one of the best sellers of 2011.

What’s happened to Hyundai lately? They are producing some really good looking cars, such as the ix35. The picture of the i40 looks a little like a more rounded, sleeker Mercedes R-Class.
Admitedly, the stigma of Korean cars is still there, but with cars like this they will shake of that stigma.
I agree with Chris. It looks pretty cool. Found some other picture of the car and it looks impressive. I heard it is going to be revealed soon
