£38 million has been cut from the UK’s road safety budget – and guess what costs money to maintain and upkeep? Yes, those rather expensive GATSO cameras. So, I guess this is the point at which we’ll start to see an answer to the argument as to whether the much maligned ‘safety measure’ actually keeps us any safer on the road, or not, as the case may be.
So, given that this is likely to be going ahead (you’ll still see the cameras though, it’ll cost even more to tear them down and the sight might slow down some people), I put the question to you. Do you think that this measure will actually increase the number of accidents that are caused by excessive speeding when the local population get wind that the camera on a road nearby is no longer in operation?
