Welcome to the modern age. It’ll take you a long time to get where you’re going and when you do, unless you’ve been totally fastidious in your driving, there’s a good possibility you’ll have a few more points on your license. Why is that? Well, there’s a network of new cameras coming and they NEVER run out of film.
Clusters of up to 50 cameras will monitor average speeds over a wide variety of roads around the UK. The new speed cameras use the phone network to remain in contact with each other, meaning that even if you take a detour then there’s a chance that you’ll get caught.
The new Specs3 cameras have been in London on trial and a second set is finishing a run in Northern Ireland. Amazingly, even though we’re in a credit crunch, the kit costs more around £300,000 per network. The government must be absolutely sure they are going to get a return on investment here is all I can say.
