Sutton Bespoke has launched its new custom-build programme for the classic Ford Mustang at the 2018 London Motor Show this week. The debut of the GT500CS, the first example of which was commissioned last year, showcases the possibilities of the programme. Alongside the all-new Mustang at the show is a range of luxury and high-performance vehicles, demonstrating Sutton’s position as a leading supplier of exclusive supercars, SUVs and custom vehicles.
The classic Ford Mustang, reimagined
The Mustang GT500CS is built using an original 1967 chassis that has been subject of a ground-up restoration using a rotisserie jig, and features new bodywork coachbuilt to modern quality standards. It is finished in Magnetic Metallic paint from Ford’s contemporary colour palette, and is adorned with black racing stripes. Exterior brightwork is powder-coated in satin black, and the same finish is applied to the 18-inch alloy wheels. LED lighting adds another modern twist to the iconic design.
Power comes from a 5.4-litre V8 engine producing 520hp, which uses racing pistons and a high-performance camshaft with eight-port fuel injection. Transmission is through a modern five-speed manual gearbox paired with a limited-slip differential. The suspension is an adjustable coil-over setup, and the GT500CS is also equipped with power steering and upgraded disc brakes.
Inside, the Mustang cabin has been redesigned to reflect the classic-meets-contemporary look, with period-style dials that have inset LED gauges. Instruments are housed in a carbon-fibre finish dashboard, while a custom carbon centre console surrounds an array of modern controls for features such as traction control, Line Lock and air-conditioning. Satellite navigation, Apple Car Play-equipped infotainment and a Morel audio system round off the advanced in-cabin technology.
The interior has been completely retrimmed in high-quality black Nappa leather with dark grey stitching. This includes the door panels, rear quarter panels, centre console trim and the dashboard. New Recaro seats at the front are finished in the punched-leather ‘Daytona’ style, and the rear seats are trimmed to match. A custom leather-wrapped Mota-Lita steering wheel is unique to this particular GT500CS, while the headlining and boot are fully trimmed in grey and black Alcantara.
The GT500CS on display at the London Motor Show was ordered by a client last year, and new commissions are now available to discuss with Sutton Bespoke. Guide pricing for the GT500CS is £190,000 to £300,000 depending on specification, with a build time of approximately 10 months. The London Motor Show car has a total build price of around £250,000.
Over the last six months, Sutton has been developing a 3D-based configuration platform for its Mustang programme. The new platform enables buyers to customise and visualise the specification of full bespoke builds in significantly more detail and from numerous angles. It is a first for the Mustang range, and the tool is being launched at the London Motor Show.
First Dodge Demon in the UK
Also making its UK debut at the London Motor Show is the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. The new American muscle car is powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine that produces an incredible 840hp with 770lb ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds, which makes it the fastest-accelerating production car in the world.
The Demon comes with a bespoke crate featuring performance parts and tools, including ultra-slim front wheels that are solely for use on a drag strip. Sutton’s example, which has only just arrived in the UK, is finished in Tor Red paintwork, and features a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated front seats, and a high-power audio system. It is available for immediate delivery and is priced at £143,000.
A private jet for the road
Clive Sutton is working with Mercedes-Benz VanPartner, Senzati, to deliver new models of its Jet Class™ conversions for the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. The bespoke people carriers can be specified with a range of seating arrangements to suit between two and six passengers as required, and are customised using the finest materials. Luxurious options include electric heated and cooled seats with a 10-point massage system, along with a driver’s partition for enhanced privacy.
On the stand at the London Motor Show is a high-specification example, fully trimmed in beige and blue leather, with a quilted pattern for the seat centres and door panels. A double-glazed panoramic roof is surrounded by a quilted headlining, and there is colour-matched suede for the A-, B-, C- and D-pillars. Between the driver and passengers is a full partition, equipped with an LED TV for the rear, and four umbrellas. The centre console between the rearmost passengers incorporates wireless charging, as well as wireless controllers for the Sony PlayStation installed in the bulkhead. The price of the show car is £137,000 + VAT for business buyers (£164,400 incl. VAT for private buyers).
Raptor and Navigator also on show
Sutton is also displaying a Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCrew, which has been customised with an Undercover Ridgelander tonneau cover, Fab Fours Vengeance front and rear bumpers and a carbon finish for the Raptor front grille, bonnet grille and wing vents. The exterior has a satin black wrapped finish and is complemented by gloss black alloy wheels. This left-hand drive model is priced at £82,950.
The dealership was the first to offer the Raptor to the UK market in left-hand drive early last year, and it has now completed and sold the first full conversion to right-hand drive. The price for a brand-new converted right-hand drive F-150 Raptor starts at £89,000 + VAT for business buyers (£106,800 incl. VAT for private buyers).
Also on the Motor Show stand is the all-new Lincoln Navigator SUV – the first example on the market in the UK. Sutton is offering the full range of models to its UK and international buyers, including both standard (5.3-metre) and ‘L’ length (5.6-metre) vehicles. Prices range from approximately £89,000 to £115,000 (incl. VAT) depending on the model and specification. Sutton Bespoke will also be developing a right-hand drive conversion package for the new Navigator during 2018, and anticipates bringing this to market later in the year.
