The Art Of Motoring

October 25, 2015 by Mr Butterscotch Leave a Comment

Before the race LM 1965

The Royal Automobile Club’s annual festival of motoring, London Motor Week, will embrace a brand new addition this year – The Art of Motoring. This inaugural exhibition will feature sixteen of the most prolific international motoring and motor racing artists who will display their latest works under the same roof for the first time in more than a decade.

Housed at the Royal Opera Arcade at 5b Pall Mall, just a stone’s throw from the Royal Automobile Club’s London clubhouse, will be over 100 original works which will be for sale.

The exhibition is free to the public from 26 -31 October 2015. An exclusive preview is by invitation only and will take place on the evening of 27 October at 7pm.

All the invited artists have a passion for motor racing and motor vehicles, which shines through in this exhibition, and all have been influenced during their careers by many things – including the ‘pop’ art of the swinging 60’s, the speed and movement of a motor vehicle and the relationship between man and the motor car.

Portraits of Sir Stirling Moss OBE will play a pivotal role in the exhibition, which also pays homage to the sixtieth anniversary of his Mille Miglia and British Grand Prix victories.

Feast your eyes and engage your imagination with works of art on display from:-

Tim Layzell, Michael Turner, Dexter Brown, Stan Rose, Robin Bark, Geoff Bolam, Roy Putt, Barry Rowe, John Ketchell, Peter Hearsey, Joel Clark, Debra Wenlock, Richard Wheatland, Rob Ijbema, Graham Bosworth and Tony Smith.

Artist Fact File:

Stanley Rose – Uses the title of his works to fire the imagination
Robin Bark – Impresses with large areas of bold, flat colour in his works
Geoff Bolam – Utilises aluminium bodywork as a background for his creations
Roy Putt – Celebrates bygone days in motoring bringing a true vision of nostalgia into his artworks
Barry Rowe – Brings atmosphere and interaction with his motoring artworks
John Ketchell – Has an immediately recognizable, semi-abstract style
Peter Hearsey – Peter is one of a handful of automotive artists producing etchings
Debra Wenlock– Debra occasionally uses sepia tones, yet punctuates this with a spot of here-and-now colour in her art pieces
Richard Wheatland – Richard’s paintings grace collections worldwide and are much admired for their high level of accuracy and meticulously researched technical and historical details
Rob Ijbema – Rob’s works are known for their emphasis on atmosphere, light and movement
Joel Clark – Brings new ways to present colours, shapes and patterns in vinyl

The exhibition is free to the public from Monday 26 – Friday 30 October, 10.30am–6.00pm daily and 12 noon–4.00pm on Saturday 31 October 2015.
