Well, as I’ve documented all progress and information received so far, here’s the official race briefing. I was glad to receive it and find out I had a later race (I’m quite a way from Scotland so an early race would have been terrible) but now that I have the actual briefing I’m a little nervous. I want the ‘lifestyle of a racing driver’! Anyway, without further ado, here’s what Vauxhall sent me:

* You’ll receive a MANDATORY SAFETY BRIEFING upon arrival.
* Please bring your PASSPORT.
* And also your DRIVING LICENCE both the photo card and the paper section. This competition is not open to persons who hold or who have held a MSA race licence.
You are so close to the finals of the VXR Racing Driver of the Year 2008, you can’t afford to make mistakes on the track. So follow our essential karting tips and you could be swapping a kart for the Astra VXR and the lifestyle of a professional racing driver!
* Take it easy on the first couple of laps – learn the track, then go for it.
* Remember it’s not a race! You’re aiming to get the fastest lap in your allotted time.
* Make yourself some space – let your fellow competitors go past and hang back to create a gap, then you won’t trip over them when they spin off!
* Don’t use both pedals at once – you should either be breaking or accelerating. If you’re trying to do both at the same time, you may cook the brakes.
* Keep your cool – don’t let the red mist get the better of you.
* Get ahead of the game – invest in some practice at your allotted track before the main event.
