VXR is the racing brand of Vauxhall and you can buy Corsa, Meriva, Astra and Vectra variants – along with their unique muscle car the VXR8 (very desirable if you ask me). Now, there’s the new Insignia and it of course also receives the VXR treatment.
As the Insignia is arguably the most ‘grown up’ of the range, it wouldn’t do to have it torque steering all over the place in the manner of some of the other powerful models, so instead Vauxhall have opted for a sensible four wheel drive system. This makes it much easier for the driver to put down the 325 horsepower the 2.8 litre V6 Turbo powerplant supplies.
Other elements of the car are the high performance, specially developed front suspension, the electronic Limited Slip Diff and a lower ride height over the standard Insignia. The HiPerStrut system further reduces torque steer and should help to increase grip levels during cornering.
Interestingly, the model will be available in hatchback, saloon and sports tourer (e.g. estate) variants, so there should literally be an Insignia VXR for everyone. The Insignia VXR will be available from this Summer, with prices estimated to start around £25,000.
