In an amazing year for Sebastien Vettel, he clinched the Formula 1 World Driver’s Championship yesterday at the Japanese Grand Prix, taking the 2011 title in what looked like relative ease. This means he has now won the title back to back for two years. With only one point needed to bring the World bragging rights home, it was extremely unlikely that he was not going to be crowned at Japan. And so it was. Vettel has been dominant this year, with most others not having much of a look in at any time.
The two closest runners were Jenson Button on 210 and Fernando Alonso’s 202 points. In the Constructor’s Championship, Red Bull have 518 points to McLaren’s 388 – so there’s unlikely to be any change given that Vettel will continue to drive the remainder of the season out and likely bring even further points home.
A well done to Sebastien Vettel and Red Bull. The former for driving in such an utterly dominant fashion and the latter for making such a damn quick car that appears to adapt extremely well whatever the circuit happens to be.
Roll on the F1 2012 Championship!
