I’ve said before that after seeing the performance of Lewis Hamilton last year, I became a huge fan. However, no-one can doubt the ability (and car mind you) of a certain Mr Jenson Button. I’m not the only one to notice his stellar rise to the front of the Formula 1 grid. In fact, there’s talk of quite a few teams wanting to take the top driver to dinner to discuss potential contracts and fees.
Button is no stranger to moving for the money. In previous years, he’s never really had a chance to shine, though some would argue that he was never picking the correct, most competitive teams. For my money, it would be mad of Brawn to let Jenson go. More importantly, it’s the success of the Brawn car and their engineering team (not to mention the towering personality that is Ross Brawn ) that has helped the Brit rise to the top of the pack. Therefore, I’d propose that it would be extremely stupid, not to mention ungrateful, of Button to jump ship. Then again, there was a well-reported spat with Richard Branson, the team sponsor, who was apparently chatting up Button’s girlfriend…
In other news, it’s being reported that Norbert Haug (Mercedes motorsport chief) has stated that McLaren have no faith that Lewis Hamilton can now successfully defend his World Title. As the points stand at the moment, Lewis is an insurmountable 42 points behind Button, so there’s no surprise that they are starting to feel despondent. Nonetheless, in F1, it’s quite clear that anything can happen. With that in mind, the only way to go is further up the grid.
