The Times Online has reported that the government has signalled a proposed change to the law in relation to the amount of alcohol one can have prior to driving a car. The current UK legal limit for drivers is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. This current limit allows the ‘average’ male to have one single drink. The proposed reduction to 50 mg would put a stop to this.
For those of you who wonder why there’s a limit at all rather than just putting it to zero – some medication contains trace amounts of alcohol which could show up on very sensitive testing machinery.
I’d suggest that a lowering to 50 mg is a good idea. If you’re driving, then don’t have a drink at all. It’s better to be safe than sorry – or indeed safe over causing an accident or being arrested for something completely avoidable. Remember, even a small amount of alcohol can impair your judgement, motor skills and perceptions.

March 18, 2010 at 5:02 pmI’m not convinced it’s going to do anything for us… in fact I’m convinced it’s more of the only thing this government is good at – spending our money with zero benefit.
It’s going to close lots of country pubs down and it’s not going to stop people drink driving.
I’m sure what it’s designed to do is take more money out of peoples’ pockets and put it in the government’s coffers.
