The Times Online has a new article on a recent development/test that’s taking place in Portsmouth to speed up late and early travel – going on amber! Essentially, the scheme will allow road users the opportunity to continue their journey rather than be forced to stop at a red provided the way is clear.
At the moment (and I have experienced this plenty of times) on roads around the UK if traffic lights aren’t camera/radar controlled then they will change at timed intervals – regardless of whether a car is at the junction. This is bad for traffic flow and burns fuel. Here’s hoping that the test is both safe and successful.
