This is the absolutely stunning McLaren 675LT – and what a looker it is! The car is the lightest, most powerful, fastest and most track-focused, yet road legal, model in the McLaren Super Series. This performance monster debuted in production form at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show and has impressed ever since.
Your chances of seeing one in the street never mind owning one? Slim I’m afraid. All 500 coupes have already been sold to rich (and clearly discerning) owners. The 675LT, the first McLaren in nearly two decades to wear the LT – or ‘Longtail’ – name, stays true to the spirit of its iconic predecessor with aerodynamically optimised, dramatically enhanced styling that results in 40 percent more downforce than the 650S which it sits alongside in the McLaren Super Series.
This car is clearly all about performance – just look at the thing. With that in mind, the engine is the 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine for which McLaren is now famous. The powerplant is capable of producing 675PS (666bhp) at 7,100rpm, with a torque figure of 700Nm (516 lb ft) at 5,500-6,500rpm. This puts acceleration in the frankly ludicrous less than 3 seconds to sixty territory. Top speed is above 200 miles per hour. 0-124 miles per hour is despatched within 7.9 seconds. The 675LT has a dry weight of just 1,230kg (2,712 lb), meaning a power-to-weight ratio of 549PS per tonne.
Ultimately, the McLaren 675LT is just what every supercar should be. It has staggering performance, incredible rarity and stunning looks. The original price tag may have been £259,500 but you can guarantee that if you give it a few years this figure will go up. To all 500 owners, we salute you. We at Car Articles simply request that you do what this incredible machine was designed to do – drive.
